New York, New York 2023

I love New York City! Every time I visit, I am amazed by its charm and beauty. This recent trip was my third and it exceeded all expectations. From the busy streets of Manhattan to the cultural wonders of Brooklyn, there is always something new to discover. Whether it's walking through Central Park, admiring the skyscrapers, or embracing the local scene, the energy of New York City is unmatched. Each visit allows me to learn more about its history, try different types of food, and appreciate the art scattered throughout the city. As a photographer and filmmaker, I find endless inspiration here, capturing both famous landmarks and hidden gems to create captivating visual stories. New York City is a dream come true for photographers, with its magnetic atmosphere and plenty of chances for exploration and creativity. As I say goodbye for now, I can't wait for my next visit, knowing it will bring even more unforgettable experiences and amazing photos.

My main purpose for my trip this time was to take in an American Football game at Metlife Stadium, between my beloved team, the New York Giants, and the New England Patriots. However, this trip also presented a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with my long-time friend, Wayne, owner of Brooklyn Bloke, who had recently launched a fashion retail store in the iconic Grand Central Station.

Besides attending an NFL game, I also wanted and just had to attend a sports event at the renowned Madison Square Gardens, or ‘The Garden’ as us New Yorkers say, which is known as the most famous sports arena in the world (as they claim, but it's undeniably true). I got to see the New York Rangers, for the first time, against their state rival Buffalo Sabres, but lets not talk about the score!! It was highly enjoyable and the atmosphere was energetic, just non-stop entertainment.

During my 5-day visit to New York City, I made the decision to stay in the vibrant neighborhood of Mid-Town Manhattan. After careful consideration, I booked a hotel that was conveniently located just 2 blocks away from the iconic Times Square, nestled on the bustling 40th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue. This area, famously known as Hell's Kitchen, proved to be an excellent choice for my stay, providing easy access to various attractions and serving as a perfect hub for my miles of walking around the city.

I decided for this trip I wouldn’t be going up anything, ie Empire State Building, Rockefeller or Freedom Tower, as I did it last time and would leave it to next time when I go with my wife who hasn’t been to New York before.

In all the previous times I have been to New York City, I have never been to Brooklyn!! So now I have done 4 of the 5 boroughs. Walking around Brooklyn was epic, I literally walked over 25km, over 15 miles in old money, and saw so much history and culture.

Last Day of my trip was all about Central Park and Upper Side of Manhattan including a walk around Harlem before heading back to the airport.

Dave & Jen’s Micro Wedding

18 of the best images

So something new….

Instead of publishing a long winded post about the wedding, I am going to let 18 images or 118 seconds tell the story of the wedding. So why 18? Just because, for some weird, and strange reason it is my favourite number.

So first on the list is Dave & Jen’s Micro Wedding on 19th December 2020 who got married in front of 15 of their nearest and dearest at Wallingford Town Hall and then had a small reception at one of my favourite Oxfordshire venues, Bix Hall. After postponing twice due to that virus we shall not named, they just said it fuck it and decided they wanted to get married as soon as they could and have a big party later on when restrictions are lifted.

Children of the Revolution Wedding Inspired Film

Glam Rock wedding film at its greatest

“I can finally share this amazing & totally rocking film”

The film was shot way back in July 2020, but after a few months wait for it to be published, we can finally get excited and share the amazing Children of the Revolution Shoot.

Check out the Blog feature on Magpie Weddings

The Children of the Revolution Wedding inspired styled shoot was the concept of Caroline Opacic Photography, who’s love of Marc Bolan (frontman of the glam-rock band of the 70’s,T-Rex) was put into action with the help of Zuza McKen from The Hullabaloo Collective.

When I got the brief for this shoot and saw the suppliers involved and where it was going to be shot, I knew it was going to be big and epic, so I had to bring my A-game.

The 70s rock theme was perfect for me to express my cool and alternative style of filming, no stiffness, no rules to how your wedding film should look, just raw, pure emotional, fun filming.

So with a gorgeous sequin dress, white trouser suit and sexy hotpants for the Bride from Bowen Dryden and the groom in stunning suits from Anthony’s London, Bridal Headdresses from the super talented Bombini Studio, and accessories from To be Adorned, all being shown off at Marden Park Mansion,Woldingham school we had the basis for an epic shoot.

We went for three different scenes starting off in the Ceremony/Chill out room. The room was styled with furniture and props from Boho & Bloom props hire. The giant disco balls, candle holders, vintage rugs and lush velvet sofa (that I would have nicked for my house), was decorated with beautiful flower arrangements from Iris & Co Flowers, and to finish off the look we had a neon sign from Bay Wedding Props.

The second scene was an outdoor reception with a sweetheart table with Zuza’s famous Peacock wicker chairs on the lawn and set out with a vintage fringed piano shawl, Knots and Kisses showing off their creative Stationery and a striking pink three tier cake by Meera’s Cakes waiting to be slayed by a vintage sword. We also had a grazing table, or should I say a grazing tree stump from Mother Nature Grazing Company with all the 70’s classics of Scotch eggs to cheese & pineapple, but done in an elegant way, no tin foil hedgehogs in sight.

The third and final scene was all about cheeky hotpants and a vintage red sports car. Again with Bombini Studio’s headdress, the couple was dressed ready to leave the party in a Red MG convertible sports car, which was also dressed for the occasion with a flower arrangement from Iris & Co Flowers. Talk about leaving in style and that is where I end the post as well.

Hope you enjoyed the short film, and thanks for watching.
